In recent days, the soldiers of the Carabinieri “Parco” unit of Mormanno have subjected an agricultural company in the municipality of Mormanno to an inspection, in order to ascertain the correct application of the legislation relating to the labeling and traceability of food products and to carry out checks in a hygienic and sanitary manner.
During the check, carried out together with the veterinary managers of the ASP of Cosenza, hygienic-sanitary and administrative irregularities were highlighted such as the storage of food in unsuitable environments, the presence of products without labeling or with non-traceable labels referring to non-existent companies, as well as cheeses purchased from large-scale retailers and resold as their own; the maturing of said cheeses took place on wooden shelves inside unhealthy rooms.
Furthermore, subsequent investigations also revealed that the business, advertised on social media, was not registered in any official database. Based on what was found, the owner of the company was referred to the judicial authorities for fraud in the exercise of trade, sale of products with false signs and counterfeiting and alteration or use of trademarks or distinctive signs.
The imposition of administrative measures and sanctions will be determined by the Administrative Authority. The activity carried out by the Forestry Carabinieri is part of a series of initiatives aimed at verifying compliance with agri-food legislation, also with a view to raising awareness among the final consumer on the origin of food products and led to the administrative seizure of 1160 kg of cheeses, 96 of cured meats and 74 of various spices.
