The ordinance adopted by the president of the Calabria Region, Roberto Occhiuto, which prohibits work during the hottest hours throughout the entire regional territory, will remain in force until September 30th.
The measure was signed yesterday and contains measures aimed at workers in some specific sectors considered particularly at risk due to rising temperatures.
The sectors affected by the provision
Specifically, the measure includes workers employed in the agricultural and horticultural sectors, in the environmental hygiene sector, on construction sites and similar, in establishments characterized by activities in confined environments or without adequate ventilation, as well as in the extractive sector.
This category of workers is exposed «to particularly harsh microclimatic conditions, as they are carried out outdoors or in environments characterized by high temperatures – we read in the ordinance – without adequate possibility of shelter from exposure to the sun and heat in the time slots of the day characterized by a significant rise in temperatures».
When will the ban come into force?
The ban on carrying out work activities occurs between 12.30pm and 4pm but «limited only to the days in which the risk map indicated on the worklimate.it website referring to “workers exposed to the sun” with “intense physical activity” at 12pm signals a high level of risk».
