Losing a job is never a simple transition, but for those who find themselves in a condition of involuntary unemployment there is important economic support: the NASpI. In this guide updated to 2025, find out how to submit the application, what requirements are needed and what deadlines must be respected.

What is NASpI and who is entitled to it

The NASpI (New Social Insurance for Employment) is a monthly unemployment benefit established by legislative decree 4 March 2015, n. 22. It is aimed at workers with an employment relationship who involuntarily lose their job. Among the beneficiaries:

  • apprentices;
  • worker members of cooperatives with subordinate relationships;
  • subordinate artistic staff;
  • fixed-term employees of the Public Administration.

Requirements to apply

To access NASpI you need:

  • be in a state of involuntary unemployment;
  • have at least 13 weeks of contributions in the four years preceding the start of the unemployment period.

Note: The “30 days of actual work” requirement has been abolished effective January 1, 2022.

The application must be submitted within 68 days of termination of the employment relationship.

How to submit the application online

The application must be submitted exclusively online, via:

  • the INPS portal with SPID, CIE or CNS;
  • the patronages;
  • the INPS contact center (803 164 from landline, 06 164164 from mobile).

Effective date, duration and amount of the NASpI

  • Effective date: from the 8th day following the cessation of work, if the application is submitted within 8 days; otherwise from the day after sending the application. In case of dismissal for just cause, if the application is submitted within 38 days, the NASpI starts from the 38th day; if later, it starts from the day following presentation, always within the limit of 68 days.
  • Duration: equal to half of the contribution weeks of the last four years.
  • Amount: calculated on the basis of the average monthly salary; 75% of the salary up to a maximum ceiling, with progressive reduction after the fourth month.

After the application: obligations and deadlines

INPS has 30 days for the investigation. The beneficiary must:
