Igea Virtus loses the lead in the standings after five days but not the continuity that extends the series of consecutive useful results to six. The goalless draw against Ragusa, the second consecutive clean sheet, the third in the last four days, is the reflection of a problematic afternoon between the solidity of a recovering opponent and the Giallorossi’s difficulties in breaking down the careful Iblean defensive line.
The pitch, made heavy by the rain, did the rest, enhancing Ragusa’s match plan and complicating that of Igea Virtus who searched in vain for the winning streak. Marra, who has to deal with the many absences, keeps Longo at bay, Cicirello as the offensive pivot, confirming the three M’s in defense (Maddaloni-Maltese-Maggio) with Cardinale, Balsano and Calafiore in the middle. The Giallorossi struggled to break through, Ragusa didn’t risk anything, in fact in the 44th minute they produced the only outburst of the first half with a poisonous left-footed shot from Carone that De Falco put into the corner with his fingertips. Previously Pina does not see a wide arm in the area from Accept following a conclusion from Cardinale.
In the interval Marra tries to give greater physicality to the midfield by moving Cess into the middle and inserting Mirashi in place of a tired Balsano. The match went by without any hiccups until the half-hour mark, when Cicirello’s shot was saved by Esposito. Having no alternatives up front, Marra plays the card of Torre, born in 2009, who immediately shows up with a right-footed shot into the corner. The decisive swerve, however, does not arrive. Longo shoots to the outside of the net, then the Giallorossi try from distance with Maltese, Cess and Mirashi. The blue wall holds, Igea Virtus takes a point which still increases their spoils in the standings.
