The fifth is almost a marvel. Tadej Pogacar (UAE Emirates) decided to take it all: fifth success in the twentieth and penultimate stage of the 2024 Tour de France, the 132-kilometer Nice-Col de la Couillole. A decisive sprint, that of the yellow jersey, in the last 300 meters and the arrival with open arms in front of the Danish and two-time defending champion Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike), 7″ behind, and the Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz (EF Education-EasyPost), who arrived 23″ behind and in the polka-dotted jersey of best climber.
Nothing to do for Remco Evenepoel, who tried to install the Slovenian for the stage victory: tomorrow the Belgian from Soudal Quick-Step will try to redeem himself in the final time trial, the 33.7-kilometer Monte Carlo-Nice. Only the official confirmation is missing, but Pogacar is one step away from the Giro-Tour double that has been missing since 1998 (the last to succeed, in fact, was Marco Pantani).
