Multisystem therapy in water (TMA) is carried out at the Public Pubblica of Campagnano in Cosenza, which houses, among the different pools, also the largest rehabilitation tank in the province. Currently, About 70 children followed in the structure by four qualified TMA operators. Each small or large user is accompanied by the first entry: after an initial first evaluation session, parents can decide whether to enroll their child to the therapeutic path. During the entire therapy path, the sessions are periodically viewed by TMA supervisors, which offer both remote supervision, through video analysis and in presence. This constant monitoring allows you to observe the behavioral and relational responses of children, evaluate the progress and consequently adapt the intervention programs. The supervisors remain available to the structure for any need.
Multisystem therapy in water, at the municipal swimming pool of Campagnano, has been active since 2016. One of the main objectives, as underlined by the operators, is the inclusion and social integration of the participating children. As evidence of the results achieved, three children followed in the structure recently participated in an interregional swimming meeting Fiscir in Lamezia Terme, obtaining bright results. The three young swimmers, two males and one female, distinguished themselves in the 25 -meter round race, each conquering a gold medal. Multisystem therapy in water (TMA), according to the Caputo-Hippolytus method, is an approach intended for children and teenagers with autism spectrum disorders and other intellectual and relational disabilities. The water, thanks to its emotional, sensory and motor potential, greatly facilitates the interaction between therapist and child, activating interactive channels often compromised.
The TMA operates on different levels: relational, cognitive, behavioral, emotional and motor, promoting a harmonious and complete development of the child. It is part of an integrated project that includes continuous collaboration with families, schools and other specialists. Aquatic activities, including swimming techniques, specific motor exercises and body games, have precise purposes: they stimulate autonomy, regulation of emotions and favor socialization. After a first individual phase, group activities are proposed to further facilitate integration. The benefits of TMA are evident and concrete: reduction of problematic behavior, significant improvement in interpersonal relationships and the quality of the overall life of children and their families.
