The first small fully electric bus has arrived, purchased for Atam, the local public transport company, by the Municipality of Reggio Calabria with funds from the PnrrThe mayor gave the news Joseph Falcomata which explains the objectives of the program financed with European funds: “The bus is part of a macro-lot of 67 new machines that will contribute to the implementation of the change in the public transport bus fleet for the next three years starting from the autumn. At the instigation of the Administration, over time, our local public transport company has started a process of energy transition and environmental sustainability. Already last April, three new buses were presented that will allow us to continue moving along a path that has green and sustainable mobility at heart, in line with the mandate guidelines. An attitude that has so far rewarded with very concrete results, placing Atam at the forefront of the national panorama of local public transport as a virtuous example of a company and above all renewing the entire fleet for a fleet that is today among the newest in all of Italy”.

The mayor then focused on the specifications of the new vehicles that will arrive. “The Administration’s focus is on accessibility,” he highlighted. “In particular, this latest bus is six meters long, fully electric, Otokar brand, 32 seats, half of which are seated. It is part of a larger batch of 67 vehicles, 24 of which will arrive by 2024. About twenty in 2025 and the remaining part in 2026. The buses will have different lengths, to allow them to reach all the places in the city, even those that cannot be crossed by scheduled buses today. The small electric buses will serve the central and peripheral areas that are difficult to access. A fleet among the most modern in the country, which is enriched day by day,” concluded the mayor, “with cutting-edge vehicles that do not pollute, do not make noise, can access the entire municipal territory, and that are in line with the most modern indications provided by the European Community.”
