Voting by the end of the year and waiting for the single city? It will probably be like this in Rende. There is pressure in this direction from many quarters, not only political ones. By the end of the month, the Regional Council will include the Agenda on the point and then, in the fall, the possible referendum.
Meanwhile, the commissioners Giuffrè, Correale and Albertini only after the summer, between September and October, they could dissolve their reservations and not ask for further extensions from the Ministry. Their mandate ends at the end of December. “The minister will decide…”, they replied to our newspaper. Almost as if to confirm that, in their intentions, they probably would not want to ask for more time, beyond what is necessary. Since the receivership ends on December 28, the regulation falls under article 143 paragraph 10 of the Consolidated Law on Local Authorities.
The parties? The latest, in chronological order, was Idm which, two weeks ago, in the Minerva room of the San Francesco hotel, held a public initiative organized by the city secretariat entitled: “Rende, new elections or a single city?”. The occasion was useful to fuel the public debate in the city also in light of the regional law project for the merger of Cosenza-Rende-Castrolibero, which «without the involvement and consent of the city councils and the citizens concerned takes on the appearance of a real imposition imposed from above». In this regard, Italia del Meridione has loudly called for «after a long period of 18 months of receivership, the City of Rende can finally go back to the polls within the current year and therefore within 2024, finally choosing its own democratically elected representatives. Extending the period of receivership beyond the established 18 months – they argued Orlando Greco, De Bartolo and all the managers – it would really be, more than it already is, an unacceptable suspension of democracy. We trust in the sensitivity of the three Commissioners currently leading the Municipality, which we hope will be able to promote a path that leads to free and democratic elections in November 2024″. The PSI, whose regional secretary, Luigi Incarnatoindicated the route.
