In February in the food sector, the prices of processed and unwanted products accelerate, as well as those of the so -called ‘shopping cart’ ( +2.0% from +1.7%). Istat detects this, stressing that the tendential rate of high -frequency products decreases (from +2.0% to +1.9%).
In February, inflation accelerates slightly, taking 1.6% from 1.5% in January. Istat notes it, explaining that the national consumer price index for the entire community (NIC), gross of tobacco, last month increases by 0.2% compared to January and 1.6% compared to February 2024 (from +1.5% of the previous month); The preliminary estimate was +1.7%.
In detail, the tendential dynamics of the General Index is affected by the acceleration of the prices of regulated energy goods (from +27.5% to +31.4%), of the marked downsizing of the decrease in those of unregulated energy assets (from -3.0% to -1.9%) and the increase in the growth rhythm of the prices of non -processed food goods (from +2.2% to +2.9%) and processed (by processed (by processed (by +1.7% to +1.9%). On the other hand, there is a deceleration of the prices of transport services (from +2.5% to +1.9%), of communications services (from +1.1% to +0.5%) and those of recreational, cultural and personal care services (from +3.3% to +3.0%).
In February the “basic inflation”, net of energy and fresh food, is reduced, as well as that net of energy goods only (both tendential variations go from +1.8% to +1.7%).
The tendential dynamics of goods prices highlights a new acceleration (from +0.7% to +1.1%), while that of the services slows down (from +2.6% to +2.4%). The inflationary differential between the service sector and that of the goods therefore drops to +1.3 percentage points (from +1.9 of January 2025).
The economic increase of the general index is mainly due to the prices of regulated energy (+0.8%) and unprocessed (+0.7%), but also to those of non -durable goods (+0.4%) and services relating to the home (+0.3%); Tobacconist’s prices (+2.5%) are also affected by the increase in excise duties. The effects of the aforementioned increases were only partially compensated by the decrease in the prices of services relating to transport and durable goods (both at -0.2%).
The inflation acquired for 2025 is equal to +1.1% for the general and +0.6% index for the basic component.
The harmonized index of consumer prices (IPCA) in February 2025 increases by 0.1% on a monthly basis and 1.7% on an annual basis (stable compared to January 2025), confirming the preliminary estimate.
