INPS report, Lavia (CISL Calabria): “Now incentives for companies to switch contracts from part-time to full”

«The CISL Calabria – through a note from the general secretary Giuseppe Lavia – wanted to express an initial comment on the data provided by the INPS Calabria 2024 social report, just presented in Catanzaro. Satisfaction with the data relating to the Institute’s performance, results obtained thanks to the professionalism of the Institute’s workers. Some data must guide the reflections and choices of political decision makers. The persistent gap between regional and national employment rates, the slight contraction in permanent hires compared to 2023, the remaining high share of irregular Durcs, the weight of those employed in industry which stops at just over 6%. But above all there is a fact that requires some concrete and immediate actions. 44% of employees in Calabria are part time, compared to a national average of 33.3%. In women alone the figure rises to 60%. A very strong incidence of involuntary part time. To combat this phenomenon, as CISL we continue to ask that the Employment Plan of the Calabria Region provide incentives to companies capable of transforming part-time contracts into full-time ones. Overall, critical issues remain, although there are some signs of improvement. Between 2023 and 2024, the average employment rate for the 15-64 age group went from 44.6 to 44.8, the unemployment rate decreased by approximately 3 percentage points, while the inactivity rate increased by 1.6 percentage points. The unemployment rate for the 15-29 age group fell from 35.5 to 31.4. Furthermore, the data on the average amounts of private employee pensioners and the gap with the national average should be highlighted. In Calabria, more than 67% of pensioners receive an allowance of less than 1,000 euros, a gap that is destined to increase in contributions. This requires social security measures to support discontinuous careers and guarantee measures for young people.”
