Through the Welfare Department, the Calabria Region has renewed the agreement with the Regional Service for International Adoptions (Srai), a national public body established by the Piedmont Region, for another two years. The renewal allows couples and single people resident in Calabria to continue to benefit from a structured system of accompaniment, support and protection throughout the entire adoption process.
For the first time, the agreement has a two-year duration, a choice that strengthens the institutional commitment in guaranteeing continuity and support to those facing a complex and delicate path such as that of international adoption, ensuring access to a public service based on multidisciplinary skills, transparency and proximity.
Support for families and accompaniment paths
Through the Srai, beneficiaries can count on qualified information, pre- and post-mandate training courses, psycho-social and legal support, accompaniment in procedures abroad and support in the post-adoption phase, as well as the possibility of accessing state economic benefits provided for international adoptions.
Satisfaction with the renewal was expressed by the regional councilor for Social Policies and Welfare, Pasqualina Straface, who frames the initiative in a broader vision of regional welfare policies. «The topic of international adoptions – he states – concerns families and individuals who, in addition to a strong desire for parenthood, often face economic, emotional and bureaucratic difficulties».
The councilor also recalled the contribution provided by the Commission for international adoptions, which will recognize financial support of 1,000 euros for couples who participate in the training course linked to the adoptive project.
A unique public service in Italy
Thanks to the agreement with the Piedmont Region, Calabria offers the possibility of starting an international adoption procedure within a structured public service, which accompanies families from the initial orientation phase to the assignment of the assignment, from the preparation of the documentation to the phase following the entry of the minor into the new family unit.
Established in 2001 and authorized by the Commission for international adoptions at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the Srai is the only Italian public body authorized to operate in the field of international adoptions. It operates in various foreign countries, guaranteeing high standards of protection of minors’ rights and constant accompaniment of families.
Online information meetings in 2026
The planned activities also include the free information meetings “InformAdozioni”, aimed at couples and single people interested in starting an international adoption process. For the first half of 2026, a calendar of online appointments has been defined, scheduled for Friday 30 January, 13 March, 8 May and 3 July, from 2pm to 5.30pm.
The meetings will provide updated information on adoption procedures, on the required requirements, on the countries in which the service operates and on the methods of accompaniment to families, offering an opportunity for guidance for informed and responsible choices.
