“Calabria needs a new approach to economic and social development that can enhance the energies of the territory and at the same time attract quality investments”. This is what we read in a note from the regional secretariat of the Cisal Calabria which thus intervenes in the debate on the growth prospects of our region.
“The local entrepreneurial fabric, despite the commitment and determination of many entrepreneurs – underlines Cisal – has to deal with structural and systemic difficulties that limit its potential for growth and development. This situation inevitably reflects on the ability to generate employment of quality sufficient to satisfy the demand for work that the territory expresses. As a local union, we observe and experience firsthand the difficulties of the workers and businesses of our territory on a daily basis, but we also see the extraordinary unexpressed potential of our region it’s a matter of waiting for lower investments from above, but to create the conditions for entrepreneurs to choose Calabria instead of other destinations. This requires synergistic work between politics and the business world to build a strategic vision that enhances our excellence and creates new opportunities, based on three fundamental pillars. . Firstly, the training of workers and support for local entrepreneurship: it is not enough to attract investments, we must create skills in the area. Our young people must have the opportunity to train and grow professionally here, without being forced to emigrate. Secondly, the strengthening of local production chains. Calabria has excellence in agri-food, craftsmanship and tourism. External investments must integrate with these realities, not replace them. We ask that every new significant investment includes a development plan for local related industries. Finally, the quality of the work. We cannot accept investments that focus only on low labor costs. We need serious industrial projects that create stable, quality employment. Institutions must ensure that investors respect labor and environmental standards, truly contributing to the sustainable development of the territory. We are certain that when synergy is created between external investors and local expertise, the results arrive. But this requires careful and participatory governance, where the union must have an active role in monitoring and managing development processes. We, as always, are ready to do our part, we are certain that through constructive dialogue and a shared vision we will be able to transform opportunities into real growth for our territory.
We can’t do it alone. The challenge of work in Calabria requires a systemic approach where local forces are integrated with quality external investments. We are not looking for saviors of the homeland, but serious partners who believe in the potential of our land and are willing to invest in a sustainable and participatory development project that puts the dignity of work and the growth of the territory at the centre”.
