At the Glass Palace, an attempt is being made to outline the future of Gaza in a draft resolution proposed by the US on the basis of the Trump plan, which should be voted on in the next few days by the Security Council and which aims to define the International Stabilization Force with the task of disarming Hamas: the text, according to Reuters, provides the green light for the Board of Peace as the transitional administration of the Strip and for the deployment of 20 thousand soldiers, authorized to “use all necessary measures”, or even the use of force, to bring completion of the mandate. The United States also delivered the text to the non-permanent members of the Security Council and to some Arab countries: according to the document seen by Reuters and the media Israel Hayom, the Stabilization Force will collaborate for the security of the border areas with Israel and Egypt and with a “new trained and selected Palestinian police force”, with the aim of “demilitarising the Strip”, destroying “military, terrorist and offensive infrastructure” and “preventing its reconstitution”, as well as disarming permanently «non-state armed groups», such as Hamas. According to Israel Hayom, the draft also envisages entrusting assistance to the Strip to the United Nations, Red Cross and Red Crescent, but does not mention UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, accused by Israel of complicity with Hamas: “Any organization that has made improper use of assistance will be considered unsuitable, neither now nor in the future”, reads article 3 which effectively excludes UNRWA from the future of Gaza. But while for Gaza the word is now up to diplomacy, a new escalation is appearing on Israel’s northern front. After repeated evacuation warnings to residents of five locations in southern Lebanon (Taybeh, Tayr Debba, Aita al-Jabal, Zawtar al-Sharqiyah and Kfar Dounine), the IDF launched as many raids against “Hezbollah’s terrorist military infrastructure”, accused of wanting to rearm and “rebuild its activities in the area”. Previously, an Israeli drone had attacked a “terrorist infrastructure” of Hezbollah also in the Tire region, where one victim was recorded. For its part, the pro-Iranian Lebanese militia refuses to disarm and, indeed, claims “the legitimate right to defend itself from an enemy that imposes war on our country and does not cease its attacks”. The Party of God therefore rejects “any political negotiation” between Lebanon and Israel, promoted by the United States and supported by Lebanese President Joseph Aoun. “The negotiations do not serve the national interest and threaten the Lebanese entity and its sovereignty,” the movement wrote to Aoun, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri. In light of the new tensions, several schools will remain closed on Friday in the cities of Tire and Nabatieh. Since the ceasefire agreement reached a year ago, Israel and Hezbollah have regularly accused each other of violating it. “Israel will not allow Hezbollah to restore its military force” and “will continue to defend all its borders”, explained Netanyahu government spokeswoman Shosh Bedrosian, in a briefing, while the prime minister convened a security cabinet. The Jewish state is also intent on protecting its southern borders. Defense Minister Israel Katz has declared the area close to the border between Israel and Egypt where – according to the accusation – weapons with the use of drones to “rearm our enemies” in Gaza. On the north-eastern front, however, according to Reuters, the United States is preparing to establish a military presence in a base near Damascus to help make operational a security pact that Washington is brokering between Syria and Israel. Syrian leaders quoted by local media explain that the visit of Syrian leader Ahmad Sharaa to the White House next Monday has the aim of formalizing the American military expansion in Syria.
