“Sad news has shaken our city and the whole municipal administration of Cosenza, for the disappearance of an illustrious fellow citizen who had lived in Milan for a long time. I am talking about Franco Abruzzo, a great journalist from Cosenza and historian president of the Order of Journalists of Lombardy who led for over 20 years”.
The mayor said so Franz Caruso expressing the feelings of his deepest condolence for the disappearance of Franco Abruzzo. “With him – said Franz Caruso – he leaves us not only a first -rate journalist, but a figure who has been and will continue to be an example of great professional rigor. In this painful moment, as mayor of the city where Franco Abruzzo was born on August 3, 1939, and from which he has never detached himself, keeping with Cosenza, even at a distance, a very close and deep bond, I express the feelings of his family and all those who loved him and appreciated him. Man of the past, the phone call that I received in common almost two years ago, in August 2023, when, on the occasion of his 84th birthday, I sent him my most sincere wishes, remains imprinted in my memory. Not even a few minutes later he called me to tell me thanks, with his proverbial elegance and his humility. His greatest legacy, at a time like this, comes from his tireless magisterium that has grasped the signs of change of the journalistic profession to the forest of change with any energy to modernize it and innovate it, combining, however, this push for change with the reaffirmation of respect for the ethical principles, a real indispensable warning to which he never fails. A firm anchoring to these principles that Franco Abruzzo has always linked to his acting, as a member of the National Council of the Order, as president of the Order of Journalists of Lombardy and in the university classrooms in which he taught as well as in the texts that he deducted and intended for the formation of journalists yesterday, today and tomorrow. We will continue to express our gratitude for having proudly represented our city at the highest levels. We will find, together with the whole municipal administration, ways and times to remember it as it deserves “.
