The President of the Calabria Region, Roberto Occhiuto, will be on a mission to Brussels next Wednesday and Thursday to meet the leaders of the Directorate General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion (DG Empl) and the Directorate General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG Regio) of the European Commission.

Topics at the center of the discussion: energy, home and internal areas

During the meetings, the governor will bring various important issues to the attention of the European institutions, including the possibility of implementing extraordinary measures to combat the **high energy and fuel** to support families in difficulty, the new strategies regarding the right to housing and initiatives in favor of internal areas.

Particular attention will also be paid to the proposals already put forward by the Calabria Region to ensure effective and timely management of community funds, taking into account the needs of families experiencing conditions of social hardship.

Technical meetings and review of EU programmes

The issues related to the implementation of the innovations introduced by the mid-term review of the European Union programs will also be addressed. For these purposes, Occhiuto will meet the general director of DG Empl, Mario Nava, and the general director of DG Regio, Nicola De Michelis.

Commitments to the European Committee of the Regions

During the mission, the governor will also have an important bilateral meeting with Kata Tüttő, president of the European Committee of the Regions, and will participate – as a full member – in the plenary sessions of the Committee scheduled on both days.

Raffaele Fitto’s speech and the multiannual financial framework

Finally, in the plenary session on Thursday 7th, the speech of the Executive Vice President of the European Commission and European Commissioner for Regional and Cohesion Policy, Raffaele Fitto, is scheduled to present the results of the mid-term review of the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) 2021-2027.
