Bergamo investigating judge Lucia Graziosi did not validate the arrest and released the two men arrested Monday night by the Carabinieri in the investigation into the death of Mykola Ivaniuk, the 38-year-old Ukrainian who was killed in a fight outside a bar in Casazza, which was closed today by the police for a month following that episode. A 29-year-old Calabrian (Mario Romeo di Botricello), accused of unintentional homicide, was released without any measures due to the lack of serious evidence of guilt: after hitting the victim with a punch, he immediately helped him, also calling 112. Meanwhile, a 46-year-old Italian accused of aiding and abetting a Moroccan man who is still on the run and who allegedly hit the victim on the back of the head with a glass, causing him to fall to the ground, has been ordered to remain in Spinone al lago, where he lives. They remain under investigation. An autopsy on the Ukrainian’s body is scheduled for tomorrow.
What had happened
The ‘Rosy Bar’ in Casazza, the scene of the murder of Mykola Ivasiuk, a 38-year-old Romanian man beaten to death by two people, one of whom is still at large, was closed by the Police Headquarters at the request of the Clusone Carabinieri. The license suspension order lasts for one month and was issued following the murder, which occurred in the bar’s external portico: in the past, in January 2022, the venue had already been closed for 10 days due to the presence of criminals. The two perpetrators of the attack – a 29-year-old Calabrian who has already been arrested and a 32-year-old Moroccan who is a fugitive – as well as the victim were patrons of the bar and the fight broke out under the porch of the premises.
As reported by Corriere di Bergamo the young Calabrese would be Mario Romeo, from Botricello in the province of Catanzaro.
He knew Ivasiuk, the two – Corriere di Bergamo reports – were friends, so much so that he himself called for help and waited for it to arrive alongside the 37-year-old, now lifeless, before being stopped that same night and then arrested by the carabinieri.
It remains to be seen what the reasons were that led to the outbreak of the brawl. Perhaps one word too many.
Some details – as reported by Corriere di Bergamo – may emerge today, in the validation interrogation with investigating judge Lucia Graziosi. “I too am waiting to see the documents and speak with my client”, explains the lawyer Pietro Funaro, who is defending the 29-year-old. According to the reconstruction by the Carabinieri, Romeo allegedly punched Ivasiuk in the face, before the Moroccan smashed a glass on the Ukrainian’s neck.
Further aspects may be clarified by the autopsy. The examination – concludes the Corriere di Bergamo – will serve to clarify above all what killed Ivasiuk, who has been in Casazza for nine years and who has had temporary jobs as a carer, in the fruit and vegetable sector or in other companies in the area. The aim is to shed light on whether the 37-year-old’s death was caused by the blow to the face from the young Calabrian, or the one inflicted by the Moroccan from behind with the glass. Or the fall, or on the contrary the sum of all these causes.
