In addition to the announcements on the news and the goals achieved by the airlines in the Calabrian airports, the analysis on the state of health of the airports of Lamezia Terme, Reggio Calabria and Crotone finds valuable information in the official data on traffic and movements released by Assaeroporti.

While waiting for the data up to October to be released, the first nine months of the year already provide an interesting overall picture: on an annual basis, therefore compared to the same period of 2023, the total number of passengers passing through the three airports managed by Sacal increased by 2.21% (around 100 thousand more). But “unpacking” the data, we discover that the increase is supported above all by Reggio Calabria which in one year almost doubled the number of travelers (+87.8%, going from 215 thousand to 404 thousand). Reggio Calabria saw the number of national passengers grow by 56% and welcomed 68 thousand international passengers who did not transit through the Strait in 2023. Crotone is also growing (+17%, from 180 thousand to 212 thousand). Lamezia Terme, on the other hand, is doing badly: the international airport in the central area has contracted and compared to a year ago it has lost more than 160 thousand passengers, for a drop of 7.1% (from 2,258 million to 2,097 million). The Lamezo airport records a positive figure compared to 2023 only in the number of international passengers (+4.8%, 578 thousand), while the data for national passengers is negative (-10.9%), direct transits (-25, 1%) and general aviation and others (-23.8%).
