This morning, as part of the “A room of one’s own” project, created in collaboration with Soroptimist International of Italy, a room specifically created to support the victims of violence of type. The project aims to support people who are victims of violence in the delicate moment of reporting, through the setting up, within the Army barracks, of rooms suitable for listening in a dedicated protected environment which tends towards a less traumatic approach with the investigators and to convey a feeling of welcome of the person and attention for the suffering suffered.
The agreement, signed with the General Command of the Carabinieri, has led to the creation by the Soroptimist clubs of numerous “dedicated” rooms present throughout the national territory, to which is now added that of Lipari, in the province of Messina, which joins the others already set up in the headquarters of the Provincial Command of Messina and of the Companies of Milazzo and Santo Stefano di Camastra.
The inauguration ceremony was held in the presence of military and civil authorities, including the Provincial Commander of the Carabinieri Colonel Marco Carlettiwith the Commander of the Carabinieri Company of Milazzo and all the Commanders of the Army Stations in the Aeolian Archipelago, the Mayors of Lipari, Santa Marina Salina and Leni, the Vicar of the Aeolian Islands Monsignor Giuseppe Mirabito and the President Anna Spadaro of the Soroptimist Club Aeolian Islands with a delegation. On this occasion, the Provincial Commander of the Carabinieri Colonel Marco Carletti reiterated that, in following up this important project, it was intended to underline the commitment that the force places towards the victims of gender violence who intend to file a complaint, first of all acknowledging the social demands and paying attention to the victims and the centrality of their early protection.
