The anti-drug trafficking activity conducted by the Carabinieri continues unabated. As part of a “Largo Raggio” control service in the Lungro area, supported from above by the 8th Helicopter Unit of Vibo Valentia, the military arrested a thirty-year-old local man in flagrante delicto, until now without a criminal record.

Control and search

The operation began after a patrol intercepted the young man in his car. The excessive nervousness shown by the man during the identification pushed the Carabinieri to deepen the investigations, extending the search to the suspect’s home.

The inspection of the house confirmed the military’s suspicions, leading to the discovery of:

Cocaine: approximately 20 grams;

Hashish: almost half a kilo (divided into 4 blocks and ready-made doses);

Packaging material: including a precision balance;

Cash: a “treasure trove” of almost 35,000 euros, divided into bundles and believed to be the proceeds of the illicit activity.

Judicial measures

All material and money were seized. The 30-year-old, on the orders of the Castrovillari Public Prosecutor’s Office, was arrested for possession of narcotic substances for the purpose of dealing and transferred to the Castrovillari prison.

Not just repression: the “Culture of Legality”

The operation is part of a broader strategy of the force, which combines the repression of crimes with intense prevention activity. Just a few weeks ago, Lungro Station opened its doors to around 70 local high school students.

The meeting, part of the national project “Culture of Legality”, allowed young people to directly discuss the dangers associated with drug use with the institutions, confirming the Carabinieri’s commitment to protecting and guiding the new generations.
