Calabria is growing. But it is growing against the grain, within an Italy that appears increasingly tired, with the traditional engines of national development (industry, consumption, demography) suffering from deep cracks. It is the paradox that emerges from the folds of the Istituto Tagliacarne report, presented yesterday in Catanzaro, during the “Career Day” of Unindustria Calabria. A map that reveals what happens in the bowels of this earth. Here we continue to live with structural fragilities which in the meantime, however, have produced unexpected, almost stubborn economic signals.
In 2024, the overall Calabrian added value exceeded 36 billion euros, marking an increase of 3.1% compared to the previous year. A figure that goes beyond the national average, which stands at 2.1%. A horizon that defines a region capable of running just as the rest of the country slows down, according to a clear paradigm shift. Reggio and Crotone lead the growth among the five sisters with +3.4%, but all remain firmly in positive territory. In the long term, Catanzaro has recorded the best average annual dynamics since 2000 (+3.4%).
