After the damage from the bad weather that devastated the Ionian area of Catanzaro in January, the seaside sector is struggling with the repair and reconstruction of the establishments compromised by the storms. And this happens in a climate of uncertainty resulting from the infamous Bolkestein directive. The owners of the factories are investing money and making loans, “but – they say – if next year everything goes to tender, what will we do?”.
Squillace seaside entrepreneur Francesco Paonessa, regional spokesperson for the category, is trying to shed some light, according to whom «the Bolkestein directive does not automatically apply to the whole of Italy; in Calabria the beach resource is not scarce, and therefore our region does not fall into this condition at all.”
