The President of the Region Renato Schifani yesterday extended the state of emergency for the Mazzarrá Sant’Andrea landfill for another 12 months, reconfirming the director of the Water and Waste Department, Arturo Vallone as commissioner. The one who requested the extension in recent days was the bankruptcy trustee of Tirreno Ambiente, lawyer. Angelo Vitarelli. The first time it was declared on 11 November 2024, following the devastating fire that affected over 30 percent of the site in June 2024. The extension should allow Commissioner Vallone to complete the essential interventions in order to then move on to the definitive safety phase.
