The Messina State Police arrested a 48-year-old of Campania origins, recipient of a precautionary custody order under house arrest with an electronic bracelet,
issued by the investigating judge at the request of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The man is seriously suspected of having carried out aggravated extortion against an elderly couple last September. Together with an accomplice, she allegedly staged a complex telephone scam: the accomplice, on the phone, induced her husband to go to the barracks and, posing as a policeman, convinced the woman left alone to give him jewels worth over 100 thousand euros, under the pretext of having to “check” them as part of an investigation into a robbery.
The investigations of the Anti-Robbery Section of the Flying Squad, coordinated by the Messina Prosecutor’s Office, have made it possible to reconstruct the phases of the deception and to identify the alleged perpetrator,
traced to Giugliano in Campania thanks to the collaboration of the Giugliano-Villaricca Police Station (Naples).
Based on the information collected, the judge ordered the suspect to be placed under house arrest with an electronic bracelet.
