In the afternoon the funeral of 16 year old Giuseppe Di Dio in Capizzi. Crowded sanctuary, many young people. Present were the prefect of Messina Cosima Di Stani, Colonel Lucio Arcidiacono, provincial commander of the Carabinieri. The Bishop of Patti Guglielmo Giombanco celebrates, with Father Antonio Cipriano, parish priest of the parish of Capizzi.
Particularly incisive words were pronounced by the Bishop of Patti Guglielmo Giombanco during his homily, addressed in particular to the numerous young people present in the Sanctuary.
«From this tragedy, understand the invitation to love life – said Giombanco – Cultivate healthy dreams in your hearts, flee from mediocre choices. Have the strength and courage to say no to proposals that promise everything but take everything away from you, preventing you from being happy. Don’t let anyone steal the joy of life from you.”
Monsignor Giombanco then sent a message to the institutions, speaking of a «wounded, lost and scared community that asks for security with strong actions so that similar tragedies are never repeated again. Incisive actions that prevent deviant minds from taking away citizens’ serenity. Dear Giuseppe – concluded the Bishop – we ask your forgiveness if we were not able to prevent this tragedy”. At the end of the service the white coffin was paraded between two rows of moved crowds outside the church
Tomorrow afternoon, however, the torchlight procession organized by the local community together with the municipal administration will be held. The procession, scheduled to depart around 6.30pm from Piazzale Tre Croci at the entrance to the town, will cross the entire town centre, passing along the same Via Roma as the scene of the tragedy, to arrive at Piazza San Giacomo.
