The ROS Carabinieri, with the support of the Messina Provincial Command, seized assets worth around 400 thousand euros from a man believed to belong to the Romeo-Santapaola mafia family, linked to the Catania Cosa Nostra.
The provision, ordered by the Court of Messina at the request of the anti-mafia district prosecutor’s office, arises from asset assessments which highlighted a notable disproportion between the declared incomes and the assets owned. Investigators reconstructed how the assets had been acquired thanks to the reuse of money from illicit activities and through companies created for money laundering.
The man was arrested in 2017 as part of the “Beta” operation and then sentenced to 8 years and 3 months in prison for mafia association, with the role of strengthening the clan through business and investments.
The seizure concerns an apartment and two pieces of land cultivated with citrus groves, all located in Messina.
