The first two days of competition of the Messina stage of the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour – Futures slip awayan international beach volleyball event organized by the CEV (Confédération Européenne de Volleyball) and Volleyball World and entrusted to the local promoter Team Volley Messina, in concert with the Municipality of Messina as co-organizer, Mediterranea Eventi, Triptop, the Regional Committee Sicily of FIPAV and the Fipav Territorial Committee of Messina.
On the sand of the large Beach Arena in Piazza Duomo, the 56 competing couples are nearing completion of the qualifying roundsoffering an exceptional show to the large audience present, who came in large numbers also to watch the first fascinating round of matches played at night (repeat tomorrow evening) which defined as part of the draw for the women’s quarter-finals, which sees the Orsi Toth R. / Bianchi pair as the top seed, on the pitch at 4.10pm, while at 5.00pm it is the turn of the second Italian pair still in the competition made up of Bianchin / Scampoli. To complete the schedule of the women’s quarterfinals, we will have to wait for the matches scheduled from 12.30, with the match between Evans/Keefe (England, seeded no. 15) and Bentele/Bossart (Switzerland, seeded no. 13) on court 2 At the same time, on the center court, Fleming/Milutinovic (Australia, seeded no. 6) and Grüne/Christ (Germany, seeded no. 9) will meet. At 1.20pm, still on center court, Kozuch/Schneider (Germany, seeded no. 2) will face Slukova/Zolnercikova (Czech Republic, seeded no. 8). On court 2, Uhl/Schürholz (Germany, seeded no. 11) will play against Neuschaeferova/Svozilova (Czech Republic, seeded no. 4).
However, the men’s draw is still to be definedwith the first races scheduled for 08.30 this morning. Many Italian couples still competing: Benzi/Bonifazi, Krumins/Caminati, Ndrecaj/Arezzo Di Trifiletto, Marchetto/Windisch, Alfieri/Andreatta T. and Dal Corso/Viscovich.
Everything is still wide open, therefore, and a show is guaranteed on this third day of competitions which, moreover, will see the quarter-finals conclude in the evening, with the matches finishing around 10:00 pm and, like yesterday evening, will provide a fascinating show in the shadow of the Cathedral.
Tomorrow, Sunday 23 June, semi-finals are scheduled in the morning and the highly anticipated finals in the afternoon; followed by the awards ceremony (around 5pm)in the presence of the highest city authorities and the event’s partners.
