Hope, desire, relationship and friendship: these are the coordinates that gave shape and impetus to the diocesan gathering of altar servers, which immediately translated into a lively and engaging image. A veritable “army” of 500 young people, starting from Monte di Pietà, crossed the city in procession to the Cathedral, among songs, smiles and signs of brotherhood, transforming the journey into a concrete experience of community.
A dynamic beginning that well interprets the theme chosen for this edition, “Aspire to holiness wherever you are”, inspired by the words of Pope Leo XIV. A clear invitation addressed to younger people: don’t be afraid to aim high, recognizing in everyday life – made up of small gestures, authentic relationships and service – the place where a full life is built.
The procession thus led the altar servers to the heart of the day, the Eucharistic celebration in the Cathedral, presided over by Archbishop Giovanni Accolla. In the homily, the prelate recalled the profound meaning of the liturgical service, understood as a sign of responsibility and love towards the Christian community.
The gathering, which has its roots in May 15, 1964 with the first conference of altar boys, still continues to speak to the new generations today. In the afternoon, in fact, the participants met at the Archbishop’s Seminary of Giostra to experience moments of play, group activities and the awarding of posters, through which the young people creatively expressed the theme of vocation.
As always, the work of the diocesan seminarians led by Father Lino Grillo was fundamental, as they took care of every aspect of the organization with dedication, helping to create a welcoming and participatory climate.
From the enthusiasm of the initial procession to the depth of the moments shared, the Gathering was thus confirmed not only as a festive event, but as an authentic opportunity for human and spiritual growth, capable of leaving a mark on the journey of the youngest.
