They’re hired… but they’re not hired. Dante Alighieri would place them among those who are suspendedbecause it is a real limbo, the one in which at least nine, maybe ten employees of the Municipality find themselves (among them there could also be the commander of the municipal police), newly hired in one of the latest “batches” of Palazzo Zanca, but stuck at a standstill due to a bureaucratic hitch that the top brass of Palazzo Zanca had not noticed. In practice, even though they were competition winners, they could not be hired. Or rather, they could not be hired after April 30th. Why that deadline? The law (decree law 113 of 2016) prohibits municipalities from hiring if the accounting documents have not been approved by the deadline. Specifically, the municipality did not approve the financial statement or the consolidated balance sheet by the deadline of April 30, so from the following day it would not have been able to hire anyone.
The general manager also admitted it, Except Pucciowriting to some of the workers involved in this mess: «This body, having failed to approve the financial statement and consolidated account within the aforementioned deadline, was falling foul of the hiring ban established» precisely by that decree law. The hiring can therefore become effective only after the green light to those accounting documents.

Mayor Basile’s note

“It is primarily in my interest to verify what really happened,” Mayor Federico Basile said in a press release regarding the new hires at the Municipality, limited to some staff units.

“For this reason – continues Basile – as soon as I became aware of the facts, last Tuesday 16 July, I immediately requested formal clarifications to fully understand what happened and to ensure transparency and correctness. I obviously demand that this matter be fully and completely clarified, also out of respect for the employees.

To the unions and opposition forces I say that all the necessary checks are underway to ascertain any responsibilities relating to the situation that has emerged, with the sole objective of safeguarding the Municipality from any consequences deriving from failure to comply with the rules of the Consolidated Law of Local Authorities”, concludes Mayor Basile.
