There Metropolitan City of Messina has started an important plan of interventions on the road network in the Ionian area, with construction works extraordinary maintenance and functional adaptation on four provincial roads — SP 11, SP 12, SP 13 and SP 19 — for a total investment of 499,220 euros, financed by Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.
The interventions will affect the territories of eleven municipalities: Letojanni, Mongiuffi Melia, Roccafiorita, Limina, Forza d’Agrò, Gallodoro, Savoca, Casalvecchio Siculo, Antillo, Sant’Alessio Siculo and Santa Teresa di Riva. The works point to improve safety, practicability and resistance of roads to the effects of climate change, ensuring adequate standards of reliability and functionality for residents and tourists.
The project includes the arrangement of the road surface, the renovation of parapets and side barriers, theinstallation of new signs and the construction of works for the correct flow of rainwater. The work will focus on specific sections: from SP 11 (km 8+300 – km 9+800) to SP 19 (km 8+000 – km 13+000), also including the segment Scifì–Limina of the SP 12 and the first stretch of the SP 13. All interventions will take into account the environmental, seismic and hydrogeological constraints of the areas involved.
“Among the priorities of my mandate is to guarantee a modern, safe and functional road network – declared the metropolitan mayor Federico Basile – capable of supporting the development of the territory and strengthening the bond between the coastal and hilly communities”.
Along the same lines the general director Giuseppe Campagna, who underlined how the project represents “a significant step towards a more aware and responsible management of provincial roads, attentive to safety needs but also to landscape and environmental protection”.
