The city of Messina is preparing to host the opening of the 39th Men’s World Surf Casting Championship and the 30th Women’s World Surf Casting Championship, which will take place from 4 to 11 Novemberfor the first time in Sicily, and divided into various stages which will also take place in the municipalities of the provinces of Messina and Catania.
The sporting event, among the most important in the global panorama of competitive sport fishing federations, sponsored by the Municipality of Messina, with the collaboration of the Port Authority of Messina and the Maritime State Property Office, is promoted by the Italian Federation of Sport Fishing and Underwater Activities and organized by the FIPSAS regional and provincial committees of Sicily.
The program of the event which will see Messina as the protagonist of the inaugural ceremony on Sunday 5 November, in Piazza Duomo, will be illustrated in the presence of the mayor Federico Basile and the sports councilor Massimo Finocchiaro, during a press conference to be held on Friday 3 November, at 10.30 am, in the Flag Hall in Palazzo Zanca. Taking part in the meeting will be a delegation of national representatives of the FIPSAS Federation and the related Committees respectively, the vice-president of the Surface Fishing Sector Stefano Sarti; the president of the Committee for the organization of the World Cup and federal councilor Mariateresa Costanzo; the president of the Regional Committee Antonio Tripi; the presidents of the provincial sections of Messina Alessio Casella, of Catania Santo Gerardo Leva, and of Caltanissetta Antonio Zagarini; as well as representatives of the municipal administrations who will host the stages of the world championship in their municipalities.
The City of Messina, in addition to welcoming the twenty-two nations represented by 22 men’s and 11 women’s teams for a total of 160 athletes, who will compete along the coast of the Strait, the Administration of Mayor Basile shared in collaboration with the Federation the realization of a collateral initiative to the Championship called “FIPSAS sport fishing Village”, scheduled from 5 to 8 November, in Piazza Duomo. A village intended for recreational and sporting educational activities aimed at children and young people, aimed at raising awareness regarding the valorization and protection of aquatic environments, spreading the culture of water and belonging to the territory through knowledge of properly practiced federal sports.
