Once the narrow defeat against Nissa was over, Messina immediately returned to work in view of the next home match against Vibonese. No drama in the Biancoscudata home: the performance of “Tomaselli” was not as brilliant as in this excellent start to the season, but Romano’s team still fought for the entire 90-plus minutes, remaining in the game against one of the best equipped teams in the group. The awkward goal conceded at the start by Terranova, born from a series of defensive errors culminating in Sorrentino’s unfortunate intervention, directed the match and influenced a match that Messina had prepared differently. The team confirmed generosity and compactness, but also the structural limits of a squad built in a hurry and therefore short and with few alternatives, especially in attack, where too often everything passes through Toure’s feet. Hence the need to intervene on the market: urgent reinforcements are needed in every department.
The current 16 points gained on the pitch, in normal conditions, would be worth a comfortable placement in the playoff zone, but the reality of the facts, with the penalty remaining an important sword of Damocles, tells of a last place and a race to safety that remains complicated, also in light of the results of the last day with the unexpected victories of Paternò and Ragusa.
The new ownership has brought back enthusiasm and concrete prospects, but now facts are needed: ready players, unders capable of giving the owners a breather and additions of quality and experience to guarantee a leap in level. The first incoming shot is already expected this week, with a profile coming from a team from the same Group I of Serie D and which would have already faced Messina in these first ten matchdays.
Meanwhile, Sancataldese has announced the dismissal of coach Orazio Pidatella and that it has accepted the resignation of technical director Cosimo Vullo. The bench was entrusted to Leonardo Vanzetto, former Messina player in the 90s and recently manager of Sant’Agata. The new sporting director will be Ettore Meli, who also with Vanzetto was responsible for the last excellent seasons experienced in D by the Nebroids.
