The Citadel of the Culture of Messina can finally be built within the former Hospital Complex Regina Margherita. On the proposal of the Councilor for Cultural Heritage and Sicilian identity Francesco Paolo Scarpinato, the regional council, in fact, approved today the remodeling of the resources intended for the building recovery of some pavilions, a fundamental step for the conclusion of the process.
Of the over 24 million euros in total provided for the restoration of the entire complex, about six million will be intended for the purchase, by the Sicilian Region, of the “House of Our Lady of the Charity of the Good Pastore”, current headquarters of the Superintendence for Cultural Heritage of Messina.
«A significant act for the enhancement of the cultural heritage of the city of the Strait. The purchase of the headquarters of the Superintendency – says Councilor Scarpinato – represents a crucial passage, because it allows to unlock an long -standing affair and put an end to the problems related to evictions and disputes that have involved the body for too long. We finally guarantee stability to the offices and start a redevelopment project that will enhance the entire complex of Queen Margherita ».
The operation will allow you to allocate Pavilion 3, initially foreseen as the headquarters of the Superintendency, to the regional administrative offices, guaranteeing significant economic savings for the administration: with this rationalization, in fact, we will avoid resorting to numerous lease properties. The additional resources will be intended for the restoration of pavilion 10, which will host the regional university library and the recovery of pavilions 1 and 2, which will welcome the archaeological museum and the earthquake museum respectively.
