They fight for a solution that everyone can agree on and no longer causes inconvenience. The students of the “Ernesto Basile” art high school which has around 500 students and around thirty classes, yesterday after two weeks of patient waiting, resumed protesting against the current school timetable in force since 1 October. With the introduction of the seventh hour, in order to reach the number of hours set this year by the MIUR at 1155 hours, this timetable extends the exit time to 2.45pm (with entry always at 8am) instead of 2.10pm as happened last year. A change that in these first weeks of lessons is causing difficulties especially for commuter students who arrive at school by more public transport, given the non-central location of the high school. The same happens when returning home, having to wait a long time for the bus, because the trips are few, returning no earlier than 4pm and in some cases even at 5pm for those who live in the area opposite the Annunziata. An unsustainable pace throughout the year which takes time away from studying and therefore from profit and extracurricular commitments. Against this possibility, the second sit-in was organized yesterday after the one that was held on October 1st, in front of the gates of the school in the Conca d’Oro district, in which parents also participated to reiterate their no to late school dismissals and ask for an early departure by half an hour, to 2.10pm. The students asked for a discussion with the school director Caterina Celesti, who met their representatives at the end of the event. «The principal – the representatives of the school board communicated – has expressed reservations regarding the possibility of changing the school timetable as she is currently busy arranging bus connections and other organizational aspects. Despite this, we believe it is essential to keep the dialogue open and address the issue in the appropriate forums, particularly within the school board. For this reason we asked to recalculate the school hours, in order to verify whether the proposal made by the parents for the timetable change is actually feasible without compromising the expected number of hours. In order to convene the Institute Council, the support of at least three quarters of its members is required.
