The 24th medal for Italy at the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympics comes from speed skating and team pursuit. Davide Ghiotto, Andrea Giovannini and Michele Malfatti were already certain they had won it with that victory over the Netherlands in the semi-finals and, now, they also know its colour. This is an amazing gold, which repeats the one obtained in 2006 by Enrico Fabris, Ippolito Sanfratello, Matteo Anesi and Stefano Donagrandi. The Azzurri achieved it with a comeback, after also finding themselves trailing the United States by six tenths: exactly as had happened in the quarter-final between the two national teams, however, Ghiotto and his teammates prevailed over their rivals in the second half of the match. Italy won gold with a time of 3.39.20, silver went to the United States (3.43.71) and bronze went to China, which defeated the Netherlands in the B final. Italy’s gold medals in these Games therefore rise to nine.
