The President of the Calabria Region, Roberto OcchiutoWednesday 6 and Thursday 7 September will be at Brussels for an institutional mission to the EU Parliament and the European Commission.
The governor will have an extremely busy schedule. On Wednesday 6 September Occhiuto will meet the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, and the European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarchich; a summit with the European Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms, Elisa Ferreira, is scheduled for Thursday 7 September.
On Wednesday 6th the president will also visit the headquarters of the Calabria Region in Brussels, recently reopened and now fully operational with officials on permanent duty, and will meet the Italian ambassador to the European Union, Vincenzo Celeste.
The agenda of the mission also includes important meetings of the Calabrian delegation with representatives of the Competition Directorate, where the Region has notified and pre-notified three requests for aid: the first relating to the Safe program for high energy cost compensation; the second related to aid for the establishment of new air routes; the third related to a support plan to improve Sorical’s activities in favor of the regional integrated water service.
A meeting is also planned with the services of DG Agri, to address issues relating to the improvement of the procedures underlying disbursements in agriculture and to focus on the launch of the new instrument for rural development, and one with the general director of DG Regio, to better focus the start of the new community programming cycle 21-27.
One of the political objectives of the mission is to relaunch the idea of the Mediterranean macro-region, on which governor Occhiuto – as president of the Intermediterranean Commission of the CPMR – will be required to report at the body’s meeting scheduled in Marseille for next 22 September.
