More drugs and cell phones behind the gates and in the cells of the Corigliano Rossano prison. The operations to combat the illegality of the men and women of the Penitentiary Police Corps on duty in the Ciminata Greco district prison continue incessantly, even if the phenomenon does not seem to be diminishing, but rather continuing, despite the fact that in recent months there have been a series of operations which, for example, in one intervention led to the discovery of around a hundred mobile telephone devices, as well as everything needed to recharge them. The latest operation, in chronological order, dates back to last Tuesday, when the penitentiary police officers, working at the prison located in the urban area of Rossano, carried out a series of checks with the help of the canine units of the body. During the intervention, as mentioned, numerous mobile phones were found, cleverly hidden, and also some narcotic substance, probably of the hash type.thesh.

“We believe that the time has come to shield penitentiary institutions – say Giovanni Battista Durante, deputy general secretary of Sappe and Francesco Ciccone, regional secretary – considering that the introduction of the specific crime has not had any deterrent effect”. For some time the Sappe trade union has denounced the continuation of a series of critical issues in the Rossana prison, such as the presence of prisoners with mental problems who require the permanent presence of a specialist doctor, but also of prisoners suffering from addiction of narcotic substances. In this regard, both the deputy general secretary of Sappe Giovanni Battista Durante and the regional secretary Francesco Ciccone agree on the need to change the destination of this type of inmates: “It would also be appropriate, say the two trade unionists, to accelerate the initiatives for the destination of drug-addicted inmates in communities, in order to deflate prisons, start concrete recovery paths and increasingly limit the entry of drugs into institutions”.
