Unanimously elected as a “safe refuge” for the Peones of local politics, the Calabrian mountain communities still occupy the center of the scene. Over the years these entities have made them talk about them and often for events that are not exactly edifying. Just think of the controversies that broke out following the definition of the boundaries of some communities: some extended to the coast. A paradox if you think that the organisms had been constituted, in the early seventies, to enhance mountain areas. Still, so much so.
When in 2013 the law that ordered the liquidation of the approximately 20 Calabrian mountain communities was approved in the regional council, nobody imagined that after 12 years the procedure was not over. A rule launched in 2018 had moved the Deadline for closing at the end of 2024. However, the liquidations started now long ago continue to be active and produce costs for public coffers. Quanding the exact figure is almost impossible, also because there are many open disputes. And although considering that large part of the staff in the meantime (over 250 employees) has passed under the signs of Calabria Verde, producing a significant savings for those who have been invested with the mandate to carry out the liquidation path, different aspects remain to be fixed.
Now the latest in order in order is represented by a bill, filed at Palazzo Campanella and signed by Giacomo Crinò (Forza Azzurri), which extends the deadline for the conclusion of the liquidation as of 31 December 2026.
