Nino Carreri he is the new councilor of the Basile council, taking the place of the resigning Pietro Currò. As the latter will deal with Decentralization and Relations with the municipal council, but “cedes” the delegation for public education to councilor Liana Cannata, acquiring, instead, from Francesco Caminiti that for relations with Amam and Messinaservizi.

This morning at a press conference the mayor made the handover official. The prediction of the day before was respected with the appointment of the city coordinator of South calls North, Nino Carreriformer municipal and district councillor, with a past as a trade unionist, had already shared part of his political path with Basile in the Dr Sicilia Futura group.

Carreri tiptoed into South Calls North, gaining the trust of Cateno De Luca but also of the “base” of the party and precisely for this reason he may have climbed positions, in a phase in which an injection of experience is also needed from those who have already held roles within the Municipality.

Basile: “There are no other changes in sight”

Mayor Federico Basile clarified: “There are no other changes on the horizon. Relations with the council? It is logical, halfway through the mandate, to set ourselves the goal of raising the bar, more and more is being asked for and it is from this perspective that this delegation will go hand in hand with the relationships with the investees. We are carrying forward the electoral program we had written.”

Basile, together with the deputy mayor Salvatore Mondello and to the municipal council, he presented councilor Carreri, also expressing his thanks to Pietro Currò “for the work carried out in the last two years, first as a member of the Board of Directors of A.Ris.Mé and then as councillor. His balance and experience have always been a point of reference for our Council. With the same commitment and vigor I am sure that Nino Carreri will continue to carry out this role profitably and, in wishing him good work, we welcome him into our team”https://messina.gazzettadelsud.it/articoli/politica/2024/11/05/comune-di-messina-curro-lascia-e-il-sindaco-cambia-in-giunta-entra-nino-carreri- 7c292407-f71f-4e9a-88c9-6730eca1bd8b/.”A choice announced some time ago, which is part of an overall review of our Administration, involving not only the Subsidiaries but also the Council”, declared Mayor Basile. “A handover is never easy, especially when you work well as a team. It is however a transition in the name of administrative continuity, where the figure of Nino Carreri, in addition to his current role as city coordinator of South Call North, brings with has a solid political experience, similar to that of Pietro Currò.” Basile underlined that Carreri will be called upon to give a new impetus, especially in fundamental areas such as relations with the city council and administrative decentralization. “We are working on the establishment of the seventh municipality, an important challenge for the entire Administration. The request to the new councilor is to accelerate this process.” “We have also decided to lighten the load of councilor Caminiti, who managed the relationships with Amam and Messinaservizi Bene Comune in a commendable manner. These will now pass to Carreri, who will have the task of interfacing with the subsidiaries that provide essential services for the our community.” Finally, the Mayor announced a change in the assignment of the delegation to Public Education, which will be entrusted to councilor Liana Cannata. “Cannata, already responsible for Youth Policies and Equal Opportunities, will thus be able to complete a path that he has already started, formalizing his role in the educational field. This new configuration reflects and strengthens the work that has been done up to now,” he concluded Basile.

Currò’s resignation yesterday

The resignation had been decided for some time, but was formalized yesterday, with a letter delivered to the mayor Federico Basile. The last public outing of a smiling man Pietro Currò it was National Unity and Armed Forces Day, right in the square overlooking Palazzo Zanca. Then, inside that building, the farewell to the Basile council. A farewell without trauma because, in fact, it was announced some time ago, for personal reasons of the person who took on the role, for just over a year, of the councilor for public education, decentralization and relations with the city council. Currò had joined the team, as part of the Republican Party, already in October 2022, as a board member of Arismè. Then, a few months after the farewell of Carlotta Previtithe appointment to the Council. «I obviously remain at the complete disposal of the entire Administration, to which I am bound by feelings of friendship and esteem», Currò wrote in his resignation letter.

The outgoing councilor Currò took leave of Palazzo Zanca by thanking everyone “for the fruitful experience lived in two very beautiful years. Among my delegations I like to underline Public Education which has allowed me to dialogue with the scholastic world, the source of the society of the future, and always very attentive and followed by the Basile Administration through careful and well-oriented choices. My commitment to the city of Messina will continue as I always have.”
