This morning the Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit of the Operational Department of the Provincial Command of Crotone arrested Carmine Siena, born in 1982, sentenced on 11 June 2024, at the end of the criminal proceedings, resulting from the investigation, conventionally called “STIGE”, to 8 (eight) years of imprisonment for “mafia-type criminal association”having to serve the residual sentence of 3 (three) years and 25 (twenty-five) days of imprisonment.
Today’s arrest came at the end of an incessant investigative activity, started by the operators in the aftermath of the rejection by the Supreme Court of Cassation of the appeals of the defendants, sentenced with the abbreviated procedure in the aforementioned proceeding.
In this case, the above-mentioned person, having evaded arrest, carried out by this Command and by the dependent Carabinieri Companies, with territorial jurisdiction, between 13 and 18 June last, he had managed to disappear, temporarily disappearing, but was tracked down this morning in a residential complex, located in the Punta Alice area of Cirò Marina, where he was hiding inside a small house, owned by a relative of his.
The incessant and persistent activity carried out by the military of the Investigative Unit allowed him to be identified in the aforementioned area and arrested, at the end of a service, in which approximately 45 (forty-five) soldiers took part, including 12 (twelve) from the Carabinieri Helicopter Hunter Squadron “Calabria” of Vibo Valentia, engaged in the related services of cordoning off the target and searching the real estate units located there.
After completing the formal procedures, the arrested person was taken to the Catanzaro Prison and placed at the disposal of the Judicial Authority, who ordered the measure, informed by the officers.
