Rosa Vespa, the 52-year-old accused of the kidnapping of a one-day-old baby girl on 21 January 2025 in a private clinic in Cosenza, was capable of understanding and wanting at the time of the facts. The experts appointed by the judge for the preliminary hearing confirmed this at the hearing, reiterating the conclusions already deposited in the technical report.

The next hearing is scheduled for March 25, when the sentence is also expected in the abbreviated procedure.

The accusations and reconstruction of the facts

The woman is accused of child abduction with the aggravating circumstance of having acted in a sensitive place. According to the reconstruction of the investigators of the Cosenza Flying Squad, on the evening of 21 January 2025 she was accompanied to the “Sacred Heart” clinic by her husband, Moses Omogo, 44 years old, whose position has been deleted and could be archived.

The episode was based on a simulated pregnancy lasting nine months, a circumstance which – according to the prosecution – was believed in good faith by the family. The woman reportedly said she had given birth alone a few days earlier, avoiding showing the newborn to her husband and relatives with a series of justifications.

The collection in the clinic and the discovery

According to what emerged from the investigations, Vespa showed up at the clinic posing as a nurse, managing to pick up little Sofia, who was with her mother and grandmother. The images from the internal and external video surveillance system would have captured the couple as they left the structure in the car registered to Omogo.

The elements collected allowed the agents to quickly identify the two and trace them to their home. At the time of the raid, investigators would have found the couple and some family members intent on celebrating the arrival of “Natan” at the house, the name with which the woman would have introduced the newborn, dressed in a blue onesie.
