Hundreds of carabinieri have been busy for days in the province of Catanzaro to deal with the consequences of Cyclone Harry and guarantee assistance to the population affected by the bad weather.

After the red alert issued by the Civil Protection, dozens of patrols were activated along the entire Ionian coast and in the internal areas, with constant monitoring in the most exposed areas.

Evacuations and emergency interventions

The activity was concentrated in particular on the Ionian coast, where hundreds of people were evacuated as a precaution. Numerous interventions were carried out due to fallen trees, small landslides, flooding and damage caused by wind and storm surges, with the suspension of traffic in various sections.

In the most critical hours, between Tuesday and Wednesday, reinforcements were concentrated mainly in Catanzaro Lido, but also in Sellia Marina and Soverato, to provide direct assistance to citizens and support safety operations.

Protection of the territory

The military helped the population to remain in safe areas, avoiding gatherings in the flooded areas, and supported the teams involved in restoring the affected areas, guarding the accesses and offering support to people in difficulty.

Anti-profiteering checks

During the night, extraordinary control services were activated along the entire Ionian coast, from Soverato to Catanzaro Lido up to Botricello, with patrols with flashing lights on to prevent looting and protect businesses damaged by the force of the sea.

The rescue and surveillance services will continue in the next few hours, until conditions of greater normality return.
