On Sunday evening, following an intervention requested in the operations room for a road accident, a patrol of the Local Police of Reggio Calabria was attacked by a Romanian citizen in an evident state of intoxication. The subject, who had been involved in a minor accident while driving his car, when he was invited to show a valid driving license and undergo a breath test, lashed out at the staff, refusing to show his documents and provide his personal details and then proceed to take legal action against the officers.
Injury of public officials and arrest
The public officials were pushed and one of them was punched. The latter was forced to seek treatment in the GOM emergency room from where he was discharged with a seven-day prognosis. Not without difficulty and thanks to the help of other patrols that intervened in the meantime, including the State Police, the attacker was handcuffed. Accompanied in vinculis to the headquarters in Viale Aldo Moro, he continued to rail against the operating personnel.
Judicial measures and additional sanctions
There, after the ritual formalities, and the criminal prejudices against him having been verified, he was declared under arrest and associated with the Security Chamber at the disposal of the Judicial Authority. On Monday, following a direct judgment, the arrest was validated with contractual application of the precautionary measure of presentation to the police. The arrested person’s driving license was also withdrawn due to his evident state of intoxication and his refusal to take the breath test; the vehicle he drove was seized.
