Yet another landing of migrants in Roccella Ionica (Rc), the 43rd since the beginning of the year for a total of over 4 thousand landed in Locride. Today 95 arrived after a rescue operation carried out by the Coast Guard off the coast of Calabria: they are Kurds, Iraqis and Iranians.
Among them 10 women – one in an advanced state of pregnancy – and 13 children, some of whom are less than 5 years old. At the time of their identification at sea by the Roccella Jonica Coast Guard, the 95 migrants were on board a small sailing boat located over 50 miles away from the coast of Calabria.
The vessel with the migrants on board, according to what some of them reported after disembarking in Roccella, left the coast of Turkey during the night between last Tuesday and Wednesday. After an initial check by the police and health personnel, the migrants, at the request of the prefecture of Reggio Calabria, were temporarily placed in a tensile structure built some time ago in the Reggio port and managed by the Red Cross and the Civil Protection .
