For 24 year old Massimo Spinellaathlete of the Fiamme Gialle who grew up in the Reggio section of the national shooting range in via Padre Catanoso and has always been trained by Paul Basile, Participation in the Olympics represents the right reward for the prestigious results he has achieved, especially on an international level, and for the great passion he has shown towards this discipline, which he approached when he was just over 12 years old thanks to his brother Mirko.
His initial experiences in the youth field were in Reggio 2000 (football) and Nuovo Soccorso (minibasketball), two teams from his neighborhood that play a valuable recreational-sporting role, also promoting moments of significant aggregation among the kids of the populous Gebbione district. In the world ranking, Massimo Spinella is in 15th place, proving to be the best Italian, while his teammate Riccardo Mazzetti is in 19th place.
«The Frenchman Clement Bessaguet is probably the opponent to beat – says the Reggio native – also because he is playing at home. Qualifications will take place on the Chateauroux shooting range on the morning of Sunday, August 4. After that, the top six will remain in contention for the medals, with the finals taking place the following day.”
After a recent international competition in Germany, Massimo Spinella has returned to Reggio, where he continues to prepare with the scrupulousness and meticulousness that have always characterized his competitive activity, without neglecting to observe the program prepared by the technicians.
“To tell the truth, in the World Cup won last year in Egypt – the Italian recalls – my success matured precisely against Bessaguet and I would be very inclined to repeat myself. However, my goal remains to do well, because I would really like to make the Reggio athletes happy”.
Together with his teammate Riccardo Mazzetti he will reach the Olympic village on July 31st and therefore will not take part in the opening ceremony.
