On 14 October 2024, in his home in Capo d’Orlando, the Carabinieri officer on leave Antonino Mazzoneborn in 1921, surrounded by friends and relatives, celebrated his one hundred and third birthday.
For this special event, the closeness of the Carabinieri of the Provincial Command of Messina and of the Company of Sant’Agata di Militello could not be missing, who had a cake decorated with the symbol of the Army prepared for Antonino and were happy to be present at the moment in which he blew out 103 candles.
During the convivial event, the Lieutenant Colonel Marco Vatorerepresenting the Provincial Commander of the Carabinieri of Messina, together with Major Maurizio Blasa Commander of the Company of Sant’Agata, handed over to the Appointed a crystal felucca and a letter of congratulations from Mr. General Commander of the Carabinieri.
The veteran, visibly moved, did not miss the opportunity to clearly and sympathetically narrate some episodes of his period of service in the ranks of the force, in particular the many years he lived in Palermo, at the Judicial Police of the Court, a period in which he was part, among other things, of the anti-mafia pool of Judge Rocco Chinnici.
A huge goal, achieved with extraordinary energy and clarity, he said in his speech Lieutenant Colonel Vatore who wanted to underline how Mr. Mazzone, an example for all, is a precious heritage of memory and values to be transferred to the younger generations.
