Add the Gazzetta del Sud as a source
The appointment is set for 7pm on Saturday 25 July at the Moby Dick sports center, on the southern seafront of Paola. The initiative, which every year involves hundreds of ANPI sections and anti-fascist associations throughout Italy, represents a moment of reflection on the history of the country and on the values of democracy and participation.
Exhibitions and debate on the figure of Carlo Scorza
The event will open with two exhibitions. The first, photographic, will offer archive images taken from the volume Paola in the years of fascism by Angelo and Alessandro Pagliaro. The second will be dedicated to the Paolano painter Piero Sbano, who recently passed away, whose artistic production was strongly characterized by civil and anti-fascist commitment.
At 7.30 pm there will be a round table entitled “The Infame Carlo Scorza”, dedicated to the figure of the last secretary of the National Fascist Party, born in Paola but who moved to Tuscany at a young age. The press release released by the organizers retraces the main episodes of his political activity during the twenty-year period and in the following years, with particular reference to the role he played in the fascist regime and the events that led him, after the war, to take refuge in Argentina before returning to Italy in 1969.
The proposal to change the name of Palazzo Scorza
The ANPI also recalls the request presented last April, together with the COLPO movement, with which the municipal administration was asked to change the name of the current Palazzo Scorza to “Palazzo Scarselli Bottino, home of anti-fascism, formerly Palazzo Scorza”. According to the promoters, the proposal would allow the building to be dedicated to two symbolic figures of anti-fascism, while at the same time remembering the Paolano partisan Santo Cozzi, shot at the age of 17 by Nazi-fascists in Liguria.
Alfonso Perrotta and Alessandro Pagliaro, scholars of local history, will take part in the discussion; Filippo Antonini, provincial president of the ANPI of Lucca and author of an essay on the Resistance in Versilia; Federica Bertagna, professor of contemporary history at the University of Verona and scholar of fascism and the emigration of fascists to South America, in addition to the representatives of COLPO, who will illustrate the contents of the request.
The final pasta dish and the CGIL signature collection
The evening will end with the traditional anti-fascist Pastasciutta, a convivial moment that recalls the symbolic gesture of the Cervi family and which the organizers indicate as an opportunity for sharing and reflection on the values of freedom and democracy.
During the event it will also be possible to sign the popular initiative law proposals promoted by the CGIL against wild procurement and in support of public health.
