The United States won its eighth consecutive Olympic gold medal in women’s basketball by defeating France in a tense game that ended 67-66.
Thanks to the success in the women’s basketball tournament, the USA has won the medal table of the Paris 2024 Games. The United States closed the Olympics with 126 medals but they beat China by a hair’s breadth. In fact, the stars and stripes team won a total of 40 golds, just like China. The difference was made by the other podiums: for the USA 44 silvers and 42 bronzes; for the great Asian country 27 silvers and 24 bronzes. Japan completed the virtual podium with 12 golds, 13 silvers and 45 bronzes. Italy closed the medal table in ninth place with 40 podiums overall: equaling the record of medals from Tokyo 2020. Here in Paris, however, heavier metals arrived, making this French expedition the most successful ever. In Paris, Italy won 12 golds, 13 silvers and 15 bronzes; while in Tokyo they had 10 first places, as many second places and 20 bronzes.
