Patti Police officers flagrantly arrested a 54-year-old man, a Sri Lankan citizen, accused of violating the ban on approaching the elderly woman who had already reported him for years for a long series of persecutory conduct. According to what has been reconstructed, the man was already under investigation for persecutory acts – including harassment, insults, harassment and death threats – repeated since 2021, circumstances for which the Patti Prosecutor’s Office had ordered increasingly stringent precautionary measures.
The fifty-four year old was in fact subjected to an approach ban aggravated by the electronic “antistalking” bracelet, as well as a residence ban in the municipality of Patti. Despite the measures, the man managed to enter the building where the victim lives, entering the apartment he had occupied in the past. His presence immediately activated the alarm on the electronic device, alerting the woman, the police and even some residents who had noticed suspicious movements.
The police intervened quickly, finding the door of the apartment open and inside a trolley attributable to the suspect. After a brief search, officers tracked down the man and arrested him.
The arrest was then validated by the judge, who ordered the precautionary measure of house arrest for the 54-year-old. The Police Headquarters underlines that the proceeding is in the preliminary investigation phase and that, until a possible final conviction, the principle of presumption of innocence remains valid.
