The city council, on the proposal of the mayor, of the deputy mayor with delegation to the policies of the sea, Giusy Iemmaand of the Councilor for Heritage, Antonio Battagliaapproved an important address for theUse of further areas of the city’s port infrastructure, pending the completion of the interventions envisaged for the full functionality of the port.

“It is an act of responsibility and vision – declare Iemma and Battaglia – which confirms the political will of this administration to enhance the port as a strategic resource for the city, also in more of the completion of the works. With this resolution the administration directly assumes the management of two new water mirrors, for a total of over 10 thousand square meters, demonstrating our trust in the maritime and tourist vocation of Catanzaro.”

The affected areas are:

a water mirror of 7,120 square meters, adjacent to the overflugal bank of bank (called “Municipality n.1”);

A water mirror of 3,300 square meters, located along the bank of Riva (called “Municipality n.2”).

The initiative is part of a clear and consolidated regulatory framework that allows local authorities, by virtue of the principle of self-organization, to directly exercise public services of economic relevance, among which the port management includes. The choice of administration, legitimate and compliant with the most recent jurisprudential guidelines, represents a virtuous model of use of the maritime state property for public and collective purposes.

“We give continuity to the programming already started – add the two administrators – intervening consistently with the needs of the community, fishing, deports and environmental protection. It will also be an opportunity to strengthen the dialogue with the institutions responsible for safeguarding the marine ecosystem, providing the port of technological tools for environmental monitoring”.

The approved act also provides for the new location of the Feamp pier and fishing boats, with a view to functional and logistical optimization of the port area.
