“We express strong concerns about the news on the concrete risk of delays in the completion of the port of Tremestieri, a fundamental infrastructural work for the city”, says the general secretary of the CGIL Messina, Pietro Patti. The CGIL Messina, also in light of recent statements by Commissioner Di Sarcina on the timing of the works, on interventions that should be started next November, requests that a table be immediately convened on this contract with all the institutional actors and the trade union organizations themselves for an overall assessment of the times and any difficulties. For CGIL Messina, the concrete risk of postponing the completion of the works also calls into question above all the Municipality of Messina, in its capacity as the client body but also in safeguarding the health and safety of the citizens. It is clear to all citizens – the union points out – that the inconvenience caused by the crossing of trucks continues to be considerable. The city is still a slave to heavy traffic and the most important work, also in terms of investment of resources, risks suffering serious slowdowns or even further stops. “We believe – observes the secretary of the CGIL – that these risks are absolutely to be avoided, we think it is appropriate at this moment to set up a discussion table to provide absolute clarity regarding the continuation of the works and above all compliance with the completion times of the new port”.
